The Fantastic Reality of Frederick Goodge is a hilarious and heartwarming tale from the eccentric mind of award-winning comedian and writer Gerry Howell. In the great British tradition of surreal and alternative comedy, Gerry Howell has dreamed up the irresistible oddball character of Frederick Goodge, a small-time everyman anti-hero who dreams big. Frederick is struggling with every aspect of his life, professional, emotional, spiritual and sexual. He wants to be a writer but can't think of anything to write about. He wants to be a better son and brother, but has nothing in common with his family. He wants to be a lover, and a husband and eventually a father but he is disturbed by intimacy, terrified of commitment and has trouble distinguishing reality from fantasy. How can he ever hope to take someone out to dinner when he can't even be sure the table in the restaurant actually exists? Life is virtually impossible when you overthink it so much - or is it? One fateful day, the day after Boxing day, Frederick goes swimming and bumps into the woman of his dreams, a beguiling and exotic woman who happens to swimming in the wrong direction in Frederick's lane. Completely smitten, Frederick determines she is the one for him and he has to see her again but alas, she mysteriously disappears. A quixotic search for the lady in the swimming pool ensues, taking Frederick on a bizarre, whirlwind adventure to the South of France and back to London where Frederick comes face to face with his destiny at the top of the Towering Innuendo. Will Frederick get to grips with reality and achieve the happiness and self fulfillment he hankers after or will he fall prey to the power of his worldly ambitions? You won't know whether to laugh or cry, but when it comes to Frederick Goodge, you'll end up doing both - and Frederick wouldn't have it any other way...

Psychic trauma is as old as mankind itself, but it is still not fully understood how or why the exposure to single or multiple horrific events can overwhelm some people to the extent that they are haunted day and night by the terrible things they have witnessed. Most will recover spontaneously, but others become victims of the most common psychological disorder stemming from such an experience: post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is estimated that 8% of the Western population suffer from this disorder, and that 40% of them will continue to suffer from symptoms even ten years after the trigger event. For many years it was believed that there was no remedy for those suffering from severe psychic trauma, but in the last decade a major breakthrough has seen the development of new and effective therapy methods. Regaining a sense of control is key to helping clients suffering from PTSD and its accompanying disorders. The authors of this book have spent many years working in the field. Here they distill those elements common to all the accepted methods of treatment, and they add the unique aspect of imagination and fantasy, described in a concept they call Fantastic Reality. Whilst not claiming to have a remedy or solution for every sufferer, this book will help to provide solutions for some of the aspects lacking in other models. This book will prove a valuable addition to the resources of all those who work in this field, where effective treatment, though much needed, is still scarce.
